Achilles Debridement

An Achilles Tendon debridement and reattachment is a surgical procedure used to remove an excess bone (i.e. haglunds deformity) and/or damaged, inflamed, or degenerated tissue from the Achilles tendon to improve tendon health and reduce pain. It is performed to reduce pain in the posterior heel, but also to restore tendon function in order to support a safe return to walking and activity. Post-operatively, you will be in a boot or backslab, depending on Dr Smith’s decision in surgery. Irrespective, it is essential to immediately start rehabilitation. Rehabilitation will promote a fast recovery, prevent deficits in walking and strength, and decrease stiffness during the early post operative phase. Please see the key exercises we need you to perform below. Refer to the handout for specific repetitions and sets per day.
