A metatarsal Weil osteotomy is a procedure used to relieve pain under the ball of the foot, often caused by excess pressure beneath the second toe. During the surgery, a small incision is made on the top of the foot, over the metatarsal (the long bone behind your toe). A controlled cut in the bone is made and the bone is then slid slightly backwards. This effectively shortens the bone, which helps reduce the pressure under the ball of the foot. Once the bone is in its new position, it’s secured with a small screw to hold it while it heals.
